Punjab’s interim government has made significant alterations to the driving license fees for the upcoming year, implementing an annual payment structure instead of the previous five-year interval.
Effective January 1, 2024, the fees for learner driving licenses will see a notable surge, shifting from a five-year payment of Rs. 60 to an annual charge of Rs. 500, as confirmed by traffic police officials.
Motorcycle and motorcycle rickshaw operators will now pay an annual fee of Rs. 500 for their licenses, replacing the former Rs. 550 paid every five years. Similarly, the five-year license fee for motorcar-jeeps has been updated to Rs. 1,800 per year, a substantial increase from the earlier Rs. 950 for five years.
In a significant change, the fee for heavy transport licenses has shifted from Rs. 400 every five years to Rs. 2,000 per year. Notably, the Rs. 20 five-year fee previously applicable to disabled individuals has been discontinued.
Furthermore, the fee for public service vehicle licenses has transitioned from Rs. 450 for five years to an annual payment of Rs. 1,500. For license categories not mentioned previously, the fee has been adjusted from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1,000.
This revision marks the first adjustment in license fees in Punjab in two decades, reflecting a significant change in the payment structure.
