The Customs Department of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stopped a big attempt to smuggle mobile phones in Islamabad. They seized around 5,500 smuggled phones worth over Rs. 50 million. This happened because they got a tip-off and then arrested two people with the illegal phones at Golra Mor. The officials are now looking deeper into the case after getting a five-day physical remand for the two smugglers.
It’s important to note that in the past few months, authorities have been stopping many attempts to smuggle phones. Customs officials mentioned that smugglers are involving Umrah pilgrims in their illegal activities. Just last month, customs officials found phones worth Rs. 20.74 million with a family returning from abroad, including women and children.
In another case, authorities caught four people and took 168 phones worth Rs. 130 million from them.
